Fashion Week

Here at Betty Buttons we are very excited about our February half term Fashion week (well, not quite a week!). We have two new workshops which are slightly more complex than previously, but we think the girls will really enjoy them. Please see details below about our fashion workshops. If you are unable to make these courses, don’t worry, we may well run these again later in the year!

SkirtWorkshop

Skirt Workshop Y5/Y6

(Years 5 & 6 only – ideally have previously attended a Betty Buttons workshop)

Monday 18th & Tuesday 19th February
10am – 12.30pm
£25 per attendee
Ann-Marie’s House

During this 2 session workshop, we will be teaching the girls to make their own Spring/Summer pull-on skirt. Stella has come up with a great design which is a simple pull on style. Once they get the hang of this simple pattern they can customise it to suit their own individual style the next time they make it.

We think that fashion is very personal to each girl and hope that if they select their own fabric they are more likely to wear it proudly. so please note that the girls will need to bring their own material (1 meter will be plenty). We will provide the elastic, cotton thread, and some useful notes.

They will be learn measuring, cutting, hand hemming and stitching and some machine stitching with guidance. We have scheduled this over 2 days so that some sewing can be done at home in between the sessions.

Skirt Workshop Y4

(Year 4 only – and ideally have previously attended a Betty Buttons workshop)

Monday 18th & Tuesday 19th February
1.30pm – 4pm

BB tips for fabric shopping locally
BB like Fabric Land in Kingston Upon Thames. It caters for the fashion conscious, the quilting enthusiast and the hobbyist (is that a word?) What we love about it most is the prices. We recommend looking here first as you could easily spend under £3/meter. You could also take a look in John Lewis in Kingston (£8-£10/meter). Otherwise, look at charity shops and recycle an old skirt to make a new one.
Happy hunting!

BB Fur Collar

Faux fur fashion collar

(open to year 3 upwards)

Wednesday 20th February
10am – 12.30pm
£12 per attendee
Stella’s House

Keeping up with the latest trends on the catwalk, we will be making a lined fashionable faux fur collar that can be worn over tops. We will provide all the materials (unless there is a particular faux fur that the attendee wishes to use – please let us know and we can advise where to purchase material). We have some leopard spots or a luscious cream faux fur.
